AGEXPORT (Guatemalan Association of Exports) has been a private institution aimed to promote the growth of exports though competitiveness and sustainable development for more than 33 years. AGEXPORT represents 25 sectors of non-traditional products and more than 1,100 exporting companies in Guatemala, from which 85% are SMEs.
From its early beginnings, AGEXPORT has been a key actor in the promotion of sustainable development using exports and providing assessment to the private sector for the implementation of good practices, improving productivity.
As part of its environmental approach, in 2010 AGEXPORT designed an environmental strategy for the export sector targeted to improve environmental competitiveness.
In 2013, AGEXPORT created The Business Environmental Management Unit, in order to execute environmental projects and provide technical assessment to companies with the purpose of upgrading responsible practices with the environment.
AGEXPORT became the first institution of the private sector considered as a neutral carbon institution in 2012; by using a suitable system of quantification, reduction and greenhouse emissions offset. (GHG); this has pushed AGEXPORT to develop Mitigation Voluntary Projects in rural communities of Guatemala mainly exposed to climate change.

In 2014, AGEXPORT, became an allied for the private sector who jointly worked in a sustainable environmental management, creating a platform for the export sector called Econciencia (Eco awareness), contributing with sustainable development using a technology transfer which enables private sector to incorporate in their processes products, services and friendly measures to the environment.
The Platform has prioritized 4 cross-cutting themes:
The export sector, chain providers, industry and society are some of the targets of Econciencia Platform, they will be provided with tools to bolster their environmental management as an added value.
Generate and strength capacities of the export sector through technological transfer in subjects regarding business environmental management.
Develop tools, methodologies, and studies to facilitate the implementation of business environmental management.
Promote business development, facilitating their access to markets, through eco-business initiatives.
